Approximately 40% of the island's overall visitors were foreign tourists during the 9-day holiday, which came to a close on Sunday, based on figures from Kien Giang Province's tourism department.

In total, Phu Quoc received 281,000 visitors, a 27% increase compared to the same period last year.

According to booking platform Mustgo data, 90% of the island's accommodations are fully booked, with the majority of the reservations made for 4-star and 5-star hotels.

Did you know Sweden is a gateway to a bygone era spanning thousands of years? Indeed, in Tanum, it boasts an impressive collection of prehistoric rock carvings, considered one of the largest in northern Europe.

Located around a 90-minute drive north of Göteborg, this enigmatic site, designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994, offers a unique window into Scandinavian art from the Bronze Age, around 1500-500 BC. The remarkable carvings, meticulously chiselled into the granite bedrock, portray a range of everyday scenes, from hunting and farming to spiritual rituals and mythological characters. Begin your visit at the Vitlycke Museum, where you can embark on a guided tour to gain a deeper understanding of these mystical ancient artworks. Next, explore the four open rock art sites – Vitlycke, Aspeberget, Litsleby, and Fossum – to witness these prehistoric relics in their natural setting. At Vitlycke, the carvings feature images of boats and figures in action, while Aspeberget boasts its iconic carved bulls and solar motifs. Litsleby showcases the largest human figure depicted with a spear, likely a representation of a god of war. Fossum features stunning compositions that recount ancient myths and legends engraved in the rock. This is an absorbing experience!

A travel specialist has disclosed that certain harmless actions can lengthen a traveler's time at a security screening.

Jeff Price, an airport security coordinator-trainer, explained the behaviors, actions, and physical characteristics that may indicate a traveler has a greater likelihood of being selected for further scrutiny.

.

The head of Leading Edge Strategies, the airport management training company, observed that several behaviors may indicate potential security concerns to transportation security officers (TSOs).

Cybersecurity experts typically search for a "cluster" of suspicious activities labelled as potential threats, rather than pinpointing a single specific point of concern.

According to Price, the leading causes of travel attire-based embarrassment comprise yawning and wearing outfits that clash with a destination's climate.

Frequent yawning has caught the attention of TSA agents, potentially due to its underlying causes.

"Excessive yawning could signal a need for extra oxygen. Individuals under stress often have a desire for more oxygen supply," said Price.

Individuals who are not stressed may also experience excessive yawning due to insufficient sleep, monotony, or other medical conditions.

Lack of sleep can also be to blame for the "thousand-yard stare" or failure to maintain eye contact.

Price pointed out that the stare could potentially make everyone feel uneasy, and this is a reason why identifying 'behavior clusters' is crucial for TSOs.

One of the things we do during training is to send people out to observe travelers at airports, simply to gather a baseline of normal behavior.

'At that point, we should proceed with identifying what stands out - and by extension, you can begin looking for patterns of what is divergent.'

Actions that will gain agents' attention include excessive action-taking and agitated behavior.

'Displaying aggressive or threatening behavior will undoubtedly draw the attention of security personnel,' the official warned.

'It might be that you're dissatisfied with everything that's happening. You're having a really disappointing day, but, as an unfortunate consequence, it's also drawing a lot of attention your way.'

Another red flag is clothing - mainly for passengers choosing to wear loose-fitting clothing, even if flying to or from a destination with warm weather.

in 2024.

Clothing items such as over-sized hoodies, large sweaters, and ponchos are regarded as being large and bulky.

These outfits may also prompt officers to request pat-downs: garments like windbreakers, low-slung pants, and items featuring thick fur or excessive laces.

Wearing a substantial amount of cologne or perfume with your attire can lead to significant attention from security personnel at the Transportation Security Administration.

In some situations, authorities may suspect that a familiar-smelling substance is being used to hide another potentially hazardous scent, according to Fox News Digital.

Travelers who accidentally behave in one or more of these manners can still proceed through security screening.

Price said that passengers who remember why they're at the airport can help ensure a suitable experience.

"The reason you're here is to catch your flight on schedule and reach your destination, so focus on activities that will help you achieve this goal," Price said, suggesting that passengers should also cooperate with security and airline staff.

He added that security measures are a necessary nuisance, as they were designed to cause a bit of inconvenience.

As travelers look for environmentally friendly alternatives to flying, train travel is experiencing a resurgence. The increasing demand for picturesque, leisurely trips, luxurious railway services, and new overnight trains redefine slow travel, combining nostalgia with eco-friendliness.

A train ride isn't just about reaching your destination, as it is an unforgettable experience. You feel like you're on vacation from the moment you board, thanks to the spectacular views, comfortable seating or sleeping accommodations, and the appealing food options available.

With the introduction of budget-friendly and adaptable rail passes and a greater variety of ticket options than ever before, trains are nearing the point of becoming comparable in cost to flights.

Rail travel in Europe has experienced a significant increase in popularity, mainly due to Gen Z and younger Millennials who are environmentally aware and value convenient, stress-free travel options.

Unfortunately, I don't see any original text to paraphrase. Please provide the text about trains being better than planes, and I'll paraphrase it into clear and concise International English.

While air travel continues to hold its appeal, a trend is emerging towards environmentally friendly and stress-free travel alternatives.

“With more peace of mind, and it's great to enjoy a stress-free journey,” says Rail Europe CEO Björn Bender.

He emphasizes the appeal of night trains for solo travelers, who especially value the "savings on hotels and travel time," whereas families and older travelers find them comfortable and convenient.

“(...) attract people looking for more than just a simple point-to-point trip," Bender explains.

Looking ahead, Rail Europe is focusing on streamlining rail travel and making it more accessible. “Transparency in pricing and ease of booking are key demands we’re addressing,” he adds.

The addition of new night train services and more scenic routes provide commuter choices that balance practicality with a preference for slower, more eco-friendly travel.

Here are some of the top recommended rail journeys to take in the coming year.

The Glacier Express, Switzerland

Experience a spectacular 8-hour journey through a breathtaking landscape.

As the train travels through the mountains, the scenery changes steadily, gradually unveiling majestic peaks, profound valleys, and picturesque alpine villages along the way.

It then ascends to the Oberalp Pass, the highest point on the route, offering spectacular views.

Onboard, a focus is placed on comfort and quality. The cuisine includes regional Swiss specialties and quality wines, bringing a touch of gourmet sophistication to the scenic trip.

This iconic overnight train started its daily runs from Paris' Gare de l'Est to Strasbourg, a journey that took around 9 hours.

Is instrumental in reviving the appeal of train travel, drawing on the nostalgia for the sophistication and grandeur of the heyday of rail.

One of the most significant developments is the resumption of the Orient Express, a rail journey from Paris to Istanbul that crime writer Agatha Christie has brought to eternal fame.

From 2026, the Orient Express will welcome travellers to relive the legend onboard 17 authentic Orient Express cars from the 1920s and 1930s.

These vintage cars, formerly part of the "Nostalgie-Istanbul-Orient-Express," have been meticulously restored to their original grandeur, boasting exceptional décor and opulent furnishings.

.

The Reunification Express, Vietnam

Connecting the northern city of Hanoi to the southern city of Ho Chi Minh City.

While no single train bears this name officially, the route embodies the spirit of unity, dating back to 1936 when the French completed the line.

Services resumed on December 31, 1976, marking a reunion after disruption commenced in 1954 during Vietnam's partition.

Picturesque rice fields, and serene coastal villages, with constantly shifting landscapes outside your window.

On the train, you can enjoy Vietnamese snacks at a leisurely pace, strike up conversations with fellow travelers, and notice the lively atmosphere at local train stations.

Journey from Derry/Londonderry to Coleraine, Northern Ireland

This trip, described by Michael Palin as "one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world", takes you through Northern Ireland's misty landscapes in just 38 minutes but it is no less spectacular.

Following the River Foyle as it leaves Derry/Londonderry, the train moves into the picturesque, green countryside, before displaying the Atlantic coastline and the warm sandy shores of Benone Beach.

The scenic views are a major highlight of this hassle-free train journey, with the tracks passing alongside one of Northern Ireland’s most pristine beaches.

makes a perfect spot for a beach picnic or a leisurely stroll through its charming streets.

This short route captures Northern Ireland's stunning natural landscapes, including dramatic coastlines and rolling countryside, in under an hour - demonstrating that epic experiences don't depend on duration.

Sri Lanka's most popular train route is the Ella to Kandy train.

This seven-hour train ride from Ella to Kandy is considered one of the most picturesque journey in the world, passing through Sri Lanka's lush tea-covered countryside.

Winding through the countryside, the train chugs along, set against a backdrop of rolling hills blanketed with lush, undulating green plantations.

When it comes to selecting your class, numerous options are available. Air-conditioned Class offers reserved seats and a cool environment but no open windows, so you'll miss the experience of leaning out the doors, a traditional Sri Lankan practice for train travel.

For expansive views and a more regional ambiance, 2nd Class Reserved is perfect, featuring cozy seating and a stand-up free environment.

Feeling adventurous? Try 3rd Class Unreserved - same setup, but first-come, first-served seating adds to the lively and spontaneous character.

Tickets for trains without reserved seats are simple to secure; just head to the station, purchase a ticket, and board the affordable blue train at your convenience.

Rovos Rail, South Africa

Founded in 1989 by Rohan Vos, a successful entrepreneur from South Africa with a passion for trains, Rovos Rail has become renowned for its luxurious, multi-day journeys through southern Africa, providing a unique perspective on the continent's breathtaking scenery.

Its vast desert landscapes, or Botswana's expansive savannas.

Step inside and discover a world of vintage sophistication. The train's compartments bring back a bygone era, featuring refined woodwork, plush leather seats, and spacious apartments that combine comfort with luxurious style.

You may dine in style, while the swish lounge car is ideal for unwinding and gazing at the ever-changing landscape unfolding outside.

The Rocky Mountaineer, Canada

The train offers four scenic routes through Western Canada and the American Southwest, the Canadian Rockies, where rugged mountain landscapes and wildlife can be encountered exclusively by rail.

Regarded as Canada's highlight, the entirely domed rail service runs nonstop during the daytime, providing uninterrupted views of distant surroundings alongside peerless service.

Each route has its own distinct experience, but one of them, known as the "First Passage to the West", is particularly memorable.

It follows the historic paths of 19th-century pioneers and passes through mountain ranges, fast-moving rivers, and lush valleys.

The glass-domed coaches give you an immersive view of the scene, while outdoor viewing platforms enable you to get an up-close experience.

Sights in the valleys to the dramatic cataracts of Fraser Canyon, every instant on board offers a new outlook.

The TranzAlpine, New Zealand

New Zealand's TranzAlpine train ride is a four-hour scenic journey that spans the South Island, connecting Christchurch to Greymouth from coast to coast.

Some of the country's most striking natural settings, with rolling plains blending into river gorges, glacial rivers, and the snow-capped Southern Alps.

Open-air carriages offer an unparalleled link to the surrounding landscape, with GPS-activated in-seat commentary to ensure you don't miss the journey's most notable landmarks.

Ffestiniog Railway, Wales

It runs through the beautiful Eryri National Park, formerly known as Snowdonia.

Originally designed to transport blue slate from mines in Blaenau Ffestiniog to Porthmadog Harbour, this narrow-gauge historic railway now provides riders with a passage through Welsh history and natural landscapes aboard the flagship "The Mountain Spirit" service.

Your spectacular 21.65 km journey begins in the seaside town of Porthmadog, rising gradually through verdant fields, thick forests, and glistening lakes towards Blaenau.

A city rich in Roman relics, stunning Baroque palaces, and historic factories, Turin is a paradise for those who adore diverse architecture.

Take a walk through the city, but be sure to look up to fully appreciate the city's grandeur, which was once the first capital of a unified Italy from 1861 to 1865. Historically, Turin was a thriving commercial center in Roman times, and some of its ancient structures have stood the test of time, such as the Palatine Gate and the remaining elements of the original grid plan found in some parts of the city. Visit the vibrant Quadrilatero Romano district, the ancient Roman castrum, which is a prime example of the city's rich history. Next, continue your journey through Turin's past by exploring the impact of the Savoy family's rule, which left a lasting Baroque mark on the city and its impressive palaces, including the Reale, Madama, and Carignano.

– The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist – to ponder the enigmas of the Holy Shroud. With the Baroque style under your belt, it's time to praise the Liberty style, Italy's Art Nouveau interpretation that arose in response to the Industrial Revolution: although the Mole Antonelliana is often considered the finest example, the Galleria Subalpina can hold its own as the stunning iron and glass roof is a sight to behold. Complete your architectural tour with a visit to Fiat's former Lingotto factory: renovated by Italian architect Renzo Piano in the 1980s, it now houses the exquisite Pinacoteca Agnelli, a compact but outstanding art gallery featuring works by artists such as Manet, Renoir, Matisse, and Picasso.

The festive season is at hand—a time for delight, exploration, travel, and cherished moments with loved ones. Picture yourself strolling along Diani's serene beaches when a sudden illness necessitates immediate medical help. Now imagine this scenario unfolding in a foreign land, where the challenges and expenses multiply exponentially.

In Europe, for instance, getting treatment for a broken leg can cost over roughly 15,000 US dollars, while an emergency medical evacuation back to Kenya can be expensive, depending on the destination you're headed towards.

Closer to home, medical emergencies during domestic trips can also put pressure on families, particularly when logistical challenges arise. Unfortunately, most standard health insurance plans only cover up to Kenya's borders. Even domestically, gaps in coverage can result in significant out-of-pocket expenses.

Regardless of whether you're planning a sunny getaway to Kenya's stunning coastline, a thrilling safari in the Maasai Mara, or an international trip, one crucial aspect of planning should not be overlooked: purchasing travel insurance. While it's understandable to prioritize booking flights, hotels, and activities, safeguarding yourself and your loved ones from unexpected events is equally important.

What is travel insurance?

In a world where the unexpected can disrupt even the most well-planned journeys, travel insurance is the ultimate protective measure.

Travel insurance fills the gap by providing extensive medical coverage, including hospital stays and medical evacuation.

For families with young children or elderly relatives, the peace of mind that this coverage guarantees is priceless. For Kenyans planning to travel during the holiday season, insurance against travel is the ultimate safety net, providing protection against the unexpected and allowing you to focus on creating cherished experiences with loved ones.

Peak holiday travel is infamously plagued by flight delays and cancellations. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), approximately 25% of flights globally are delayed, particularly during peak periods.

Picture yourself having booked the ultimate getaway, but upon check-in, it's cancelled due to weather conditions or oversold flights. In the absence of travel insurance, the sudden expenses, including cancelled accommodations and abandoned excursions, have a significant impact on your finances.

Travel insurance is a very helpful safety net for tourists and travelers alike.

Travel insurance coverage often includes reimbursement for prepaid expenses such as flights, hotel stays, or tours in case trips are interrupted, canceled or delayed due to unavoidable circumstances. This means one can get back the money one has already paid out if plans unexpectedly change. For individuals from Kenya visiting well-known destinations like Zanzibar, Dubai, or Mauritius, where bookings are often made well in advance, this protection ensures that money that has been earned and spent does not go to waste if one's plans are suddenly altered.

Traveling during the peak holiday season boosts the risk of lost or stolen luggage - a common concern for all travelers. Data from major airlines indicate that roughly 7 mishandled bags are reported for every 1,000 passengers in 2024, a figure that increases significantly during the holiday season.

If you've ever experienced the frustration of having your luggage delayed or misplaced, you're well aware of the inconvenience of arriving at your destination without the essentials like clothes or toiletries. Travel insurance offers compensation for lost, stolen, or delayed luggage, allowing you to replace your belongings promptly without incurring additional expenses. For individuals carrying valuable items such as electronics, cameras, or gifts, this coverage is particularly critical.

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the unpredictability of travel. Flight cancellations, quarantine restrictions, and sudden border closures disrupted even the most carefully planned itineraries.

Many travel insurance policies now come with pandemic-related coverage, such as covering trip cancellations if you test positive or covering quarantine expenses if you are abroad. As international travel becomes increasingly popular among Kenyans, this feature is critical. It guarantees that one will not be left financially stranded in a pandemic world where travel disruptions still occur.

What are the costs associated with travel insurance?

A common misconception is that travel insurance is costly. On the contrary, policies are surprisingly reasonable. A comprehensive policy for a week-long trip within Africa or the Middle East can cost as little as KSh 2,000 to KSh 5,000—roughly the price of a meal at a high-end Nairobi restaurant. For international travel, where risks and costs are higher, spending just 1 to 2% of one’s total trip budget on insurance offers invaluable protection.

As Kenya's travel market expands, numerous local and international service providers now offer customized travel insurance plans. When selecting a policy, consider aspects such as medical coverage limits, trip cancellation provisions, and luggage protection. Experienced travelers may choose an annual multi-trip policy, which is frequently more economical than purchasing coverage for each individual trip.

Don't let an unexpected occurrence turn your dream getaway into a financial or stressful ordeal. Whether you're traveling locally or abroad, treat travel insurance as your top priority this holiday season. A small upfront investment can bring immense peace of mind and guarantee that your vacation remains stress-free and joyful. Shield your travel plans, secure your loved ones, and take your holidays with confidence. Book a policy today!

  • She stresses that there are several reasons why she would recommend visiting Saudi Arabia for holidays.
  • The content creator shares a travel plan to visit the country's most notable attractions.

was once one of the world's least-traveled places.

The attraction is opening to international tourism, and visitor numbers are expected to soar when the 2034 World Cup arrives.

Thinking of going but hesitant because it's now marked on the map, and you're unsure if it's really your scene - or concerned about receiving a negative welcome?

this may just spark your travel excitement for the country.

The 27-year-old creator of travel content has resided in Saudi Arabia for 15 years and is eager for the global community to recognize this country as an ideal destination for vacationers.

One should always follow and learn about the country, including its best destinations, common misconceptions, and ideal itinerary, as revealed by MailOnline Travel.

We started off by asking her her advice for those who were apprehensive about visiting.

She said: "Saudi Arabia is an extremely safe country, and I would recommend that people don't take everything they see in the media at face value. The Saudi people are among the most warmly hospitable and welcoming you'll ever encounter."

I strongly suggest visiting this place as a holiday destination. Similar to many other Gulf countries, incidents of street violence and thefts such as muggings are extremely uncommon, and police visibility is prominent in major metropolitan areas.

'Since visiting will be a new and possibly unfamiliar experience for you, I suggest you arrive with an open and understanding mindset. It would be beneficial to research the customs and social norms beforehand, and to be receptive to and participate in the activities.'

Inayah stated that several assumptions are held about Saudi Arabia.

She disclosed that even though "it's true that you can't drink alcohol, it doesn't undermine the experience" of visiting.

The travel expert added that visiting women do not need to wear a headscarf.

She stated: 'Modesty is encouraged, but women are no longer required to cover their hair or wear an abaya.'

She claims that despite perceptions that 'women lack rights' and 'there's no freedom of speech', 'Saudi women are highly educated' and are taking on increasingly prominent leadership roles.

Concerned that it might be extremely hot? Inayah said that isn't always the case, telling MailOnline: 'While summers are very hot, the winter months from November to February are pleasantly mild, making it an ideal time to visit.'

What is the travel Specialist's favorite thing about the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia?

She said: "It's difficult to select a single highlight, particularly given my personal connection to this place. Witnessing Saudi Arabia's remarkable metamorphosis has been truly impressive. From a more isolated society, it has evolved into a vibrant centre of cultural and innovative activities, fuelled by the forward-looking leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman."

'Saudi Arabia skillfully combines contemporary advancements with a rich heritage.'

The place where I grew up eating never fails to impress with its mouthwatering shawarma.

'Events like Riyadh Season have put Saudi Arabia in the global spotlight, offering unforgettable concerts, thrilling sports events, and top-tier entertainment.'

In 2023, I had the opportunity to attend MDL Beast Soundstorm, the largest music festival in the Middle East, where I was able to witness extraordinary performances by artists such as David Guetta, Steve Aoki, and Amr Diab.

Given that Saudi Arabia will be hosting the Fifa World Cup 2034, the country's international influence is poised to reach new heights. As such, there has never been a more opportune moment to explore and discover this rapidly evolving nation in person.

What are the country's essential sights to visit?

Inayah suggested visiting historical attractions in Riyadh, including Masmak Fort, Murabba Palace, and the ancient mud-brick city of Diriyah, the origin of the Saudi state. Additionally, she recommended exploring modern areas such as the King Abdullah Financial District, Via Riyadh mall, and Boulevard.

The Kingdom Centre Skybridge, offering ‘panoramic views’, should be a priority, along with a day trip to the breathtaking Edge of the World cliff face, approximately 62 miles from Riyadh.

In Jeddah, Inayah recommended 'wandering through Al-Balad [the historic district], visiting the Floating Mosque, strolling along the Corniche and snorkelling at Silver Sands Beach'.

The ancient oasis city of Al-Ula and the nearby captivating tombs of Mada’in Salih - situated in Al-Ula, Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site - are certainly worth your top consideration.

She said, 'Experience Abha, uncover the charm of the Asir Mountains, visit the traditional village of Habala and appreciate the pleasant climate and green landscapes.'

Meantime, in the desert, tourists can 'enjoy dune bashing, camel riding and a Bedouin style meal under the stars'.

Inayah stated to MailOnline that Muslim tourists should aim to 'experience the spiritual significance of Mecca and Medina, two of the holiest sites in Islam'.

One must also experience the cuisine and the lively souk shopping scene.

Inayah recommended trying Kabsa (spiced rice and meat), Mandi (meat and rice cooked in an earthen clay pit), Ma'moul (butter cookies), Maqshush (swirled buckwheat patties topped with honey and clarified butter), and Muttabqa (a stuffed pancake), and suggested that visitors browse through the souks to acquire spices and souvenirs 'and as well, experience the warmth of Saudi hospitality and traditions'.

She added: 'Souk al-Zal in Al Dirah in Riyadh is perfect for this.'

Certainly, tourists must be aware of the country's customs and regulations, as Inayah emphasizes in her TikTok video.

She shared with MailOnline: 'Just as you would with any destination, it's essential to use common sense and respect for the local customs. Refrain from criticizing Islam or the Saudi state, always ask permission before taking someone's picture, and be considerate of local dress codes to ensure a respectful and secure experience.'

Please dress modestly and respect local customs and traditions. Consumption of alcohol is not permitted, and some behaviors may be limited.

‘Respect people’s privacy by avoiding public displays of affection and refrain from taking the locals’ photographs, especially women and sensitive locations such as government buildings.’

You'll also want to plan your schedule around prayer times, warned Inayah, who said: 'Some businesses close during prayer times, so schedule your activities accordingly.'

Traffic can be challenging.

She said: ‘If I had to mention one drawback [about Saudi Arabia], it would be the traffic in Riyadh. The surge in tourism and increasing population have led to increasingly congested roads, often resulting in longer than anticipated travel times.

‘However, with the recent launch of the Riyadh Metro, this challenge is poised to become more manageable, offering a promising solution for more efficient transportation in the future.’

One more etiquette tip is on the list for a trip to Saudi Arabia: Inayah suggested: 'Engage with locals. Saudis are quite welcoming and ready to share their culture.'
